Is this the best dinosaur game of 2018? So far it’s certainly in with a very good shot! I’ve got three hours on record with this game as I got this game from the developers just before release for the purpose of making YouTube vids. Here are some thoughts and a video at the end.
It’s cute, it’s fun, it has a range of interesting systems, but will it last depth-wise? It’s hard to say right now, but what you get for quite a reasonable fee is a fun, polished tycoon game with a lot to explore.
Attractive, quirky, and there’s always something going on to look at, from your dinosaurs being adorable, to visitor balloons drfiting away in the breeze.
Cheerful songs, roaring dinosaurs, generally effective sounds that aren’t intrusive, but also not totally gripping. Does the job.
There’s a great blend of tycoon elements such as making money and building out your park and optimizing your park for guests and dinosaurs. On top of that there’s research trees to unlock, expeditions to go on (a cute minigame) and if your dinosaurs love you – “heart” unlocks as well. Not only that there are dinosaur decorations (hats!) and toys to unlock and explore and overall there’s always something to do – which is nice.
Early on you may find that you get a bit short of money and have to wait for your wallet to catch up with your ambitions. This isn’t the end of the world, but it can be a bit annoying. I put this down to me probably not being a very effective dino park builder yet. It also seems like that on default settings the game isn’t particularly difficult – harder difficulties may make staying in the black harder – I would hope so.
The right blend of cute, fun, interesting, good gameplay loops and feel, great theme and a good price. I’d recommend this, or at least put it on your watch list!
